I was Christmas shopping for thoughtful ethical and eco friendly gifts. Looking for something in particular, (which I won't give away before Christmas) I discovered this website Ethical Roots...
They are extremely passionate about the importance of ethical retail. Therefore, all of their suppliers work within the regulations of Fairtrade and are WFTO or BAFTS certified.
- They provide a fair wage - artisans are paid equal to or above their regional minimum wage.
- A fair price has been mutually agreed by all parties involved
- Equal pay for work by women and men is enforced.
- Safe and fair working conditions
- No forced labour
- No child labour
- Fair terms of trade = no exploitation
- Promotes and protects the cultural identity and traditional skills of Artisans
- Respect for the environment
- Made from materials that originate from sustainable sources with the least impact on the environment.
"As a company, we are passionate about improving the quality of life for individuals and communities within developing countries, to ultimately create a fairer world.
Ethical Roots Fairtrade products may cost slightly more than comparable items but we believe, by selling products that are manufactured within the terms of Fairtrade, the vitally important task of reducing global inequality is achievable. Join us on the journey."
They sell products with beautiful stories:
"In the highland villages of Guatemala, a tradition exists where every time you feel anxious or worried you tell your problems to a little worry doll and leave him or her under your pillow to take your problems away. By morning your mind will be clear and your worries gone!"
Their Ethical Roots incense sets are Fairtrade and handmade in India where the supplier provides work for 27 people, and provides good rates of remuneration, holiday and sick pay and an environmentally neutral production environment. Plus the business also provides educational assistance for the children of all of the workers and pays the salaries of 2 teachers at a local NGO school. To top it off, even all the packaging are materials that are made from recycled sources #wow
Ethical Roots bird houses and wind-chimes are Fairtrade and handcrafted by a number of family workshops around the village of Tegalalang, in the shadow of the Kintimani volcano, on the island of Bali. The local artisans are provided with the fair wage and working conditions.
The raw, unique wind-chimes are made using locally sourced bamboo, coconut shell, and various straws and grasses.
These shakers are my favourite! Their musical instruments are not only Fair Trade from Indonesia, but they are made from recycled materials; from used old drink bottle tops and polished coconut shell to create a range of instruments. I 💚 them!!!!
"Fairtrade provides better and fairer opportunities for the people that produce the products we consume. This happens through better prices, decent working conditions and fair deals for the artisans or workers involved."
I won't give too much away... head on over to their website:
