I was contacted by a truly sublime person called Cait, also known as the Vintage Detective!
From a young age Cait had a great vision for art, fashion and vintage clothing, fused with the passion for a bright future:
“Together, let’s juxtapose the exuberance of today with the grace and wisdom of yesterday to create a more beautiful tomorrow”
With this in mind, Cait created "Vintage Detective" as a base to sell vintage women's clothing and accessories.
But VintageDetective.com encompasses so much more than just another online second hand store: Cait also writes two stunning blogs where she shares similar hopes as RoEco Fashion to inspire young women to see fashion through a new lens, and to make positive lifestyle changes.
"I dream of bringing woman across the world of all colors, shapes, and sizes together, and empowering them to beat to their own drums as well. I believe it's our time to unite as women so that we may create more beauty and spread love and hope throughout the world"
#WomanCrush is a platform where Cait shares stories about people who have personally inspired her in the hope that we can also learn from their Wisdom!
Whereas, her blog spot #FlashbackFashion, amalgamates these powerful stories through the transformation of fashion history and it's current spirit and trends.
Why I love the Vintage Detective!
Cait believes that:
"The art of fashion is one of the most pure forms of personal expression"
And I have to agree with her! Your chosen skin can reflect so many things: your perception of life, your present moment, your imagination, reality, how you are feeling, what you are thinking, who you are, who you sometimes feel like being, where you are going... The clothes we decide to wear, is something we get to choose for ourselves, sometimes multiple times throughout the day, every day!! We can choose to wear clothes that make us feel serious, uncomfortable, unattractive, broke, guilty. Or, I guess, we can choose to wear clothes that make us feel like dancing, feel good, free, happy, comfortable, sexy, confident, innocent, virtuous, even charitable! ;)
Not only does Cait express her values and colourful personality through her unique taste in what she wears, but the language she uses and her writing style is simply breathtaking. It is like she takes the words right out of my mouth, but moulds them beautifully and clearly! #Ilovethevintagedetective!
"Back then I was able to live vicariously through fashion to experience the idealism I longed for, and to release my wild imagination"
Be the change you wish to see in the world!
RoEco Fashion and Vintage Detective clearly share very similar missions! With Caits (over) 10 years experience as a fashion designer, she has gained extremely invaluable knowledge in the industry. She has managed to utilize her skills by identifying emerging trends and incorporating them into designs that make woman feel comfortable and attractive. But, finds sustainable solutions to the toxic problems that the fashion industry causes all over the world.
"Young women are being taught through airbrushed images of runway models in fashion media outlets that they must make themselves as small as possible, and at all costs, in order to be worthy- even if that involves an eating disorder and an addiction to heroine...I will only work with models that promote healthy body positive images".
I related very much to this statement Cait wrote on her website. It is a huge reason as to why I decided to runaway from the runway and the photographic fast fashion industry as a model. I didn't like the fact that I was told to lose weight around my hips, that my arms were too fat, my legs were too short, my bum was too big, and that, after being hired for my so called "natural beauty" my images were then distorted to the point that I was unrecognisable! I began to fight against the norms of the industry by participating in campaigns. I even did my own case study on the impact the images in the media are having on young women in the public. The unaccomplishable ideal image that was/is being portrayed is affecting the lives and beliefs of many women and men!
It takes experiences to initiate life changes!
Another reason why I find Cait so inspiring and interesting is the transformation she had from the fashion industry to becoming the Vintage Detective. This occurred after a life altering experience when she was sadly diagnosed with breast cancer at the young age of 31:
"Losing your natural breasts and all of your hair is not something I wish upon any young woman, however, I now see how much it helped me to realize that the qualities which make me truly feminine are my kindness, vulnerability, and honesty. It is not a voluptuous body or long flowing curls that make me beautiful, it is the twinkle in my eyes, the warmth in my smile, and the song in my heart"
Cait used the art of fashion creativity to find herself again. She reevaluated what being feminine was and created a new way to make herself feel this way! #amazing! I watched my mother go through the same transformation and I am so proud and blessed that she has been able to do the same. This demonstrates just how important your clothes can be! Choose them with love and passion, to the point that you genuinely feel good on the outside and the inside!
Together we can make a difference!
I believe that it's our individual duties to each be the change we'd like to see put forth in the world, however we are much more powerful when we work together so lets hold each other accountable.
Vintage detectives goal is to make recycled vintage clothing more desirable and accessible to modern women with busy lifestyles. As well as sharing tips to help us integrate sustainable practices into our hectic lives with out it adding extra stress! #WhatAnAngel!
But of course the more we act, work together, communicate and support each other, the better changes we can make to the environment.
I highly recommend signing up to The Vintage Detective mailing list, where you will receive all the special offers and updates directly!

"Cancer has taught me so many lessons, possibly the most important being that life is short, so if there’s something you dream of one day doing, you have to do it today. Believe in yourself, and follow your dreams; That’s my new mantra.”
